not gonna lie, I’ve been lying awake thinking about how to politely tell the toaster it’s too old to toast my bread. like—do I leave a note? maybe offer it a retirement party? it's the least I could do for something that burned my last bagel beyond recognition. now I can’t sleep, just picturing a sad toaster on my kitchen counter—my therapist would have a field day.

it's not that i care too much about my neighbor’s half-dead potted fern... it’s just that i had a full-blown argument with it in my head and now i can’t look it in the leaves without feeling irrationally angry. i swear that plant thinks it can just wilt and hide its secrets from me. someone needs to get me a therapist... or a gardening book.
