the best part of my day is when the bus breaks down. there i am, standing under an overpass, sweating through my work shirt while i mentally calculate how much longer it will be until i get home— and just... praying the lady from the bus stop doesn’t start up about her cat’s diet again. she’s somehow more interesting than the sixty-five-minute scroll through “new on Netflix.” sometimes i wonder if this whole thing is a test or a punishment for something, you know? like when the lady across the aisle whips out her lunch, and it's a Tupperware full of quinoa and kale while i just stare at the crumpled, empty bag of stale chips in my pocket... I don’t know, maybe next week i’ll buy a cereal box and call it a dinner for my endless rides.
